Following the success of “Drive to Survive” and “Quarterback” docuseries, Netflix is expanding into the NBA.

NBA reporter Shams Charania confirmed that the series will follow five NBA stars throughout a season.

According to the Charania, the featured players are LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings.

The series is being produced by LeBron James’ SpringHill Company, Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions.

Omaha Productions also produced the first season of “Quarterback,” in collaboration with NFL Films and 2PM Productions. The show premiered last summer and followed Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, and Marcus Mariota, who was with the Atlanta Falcons at the time, throughout the 2022 NFL season, both on and off the field.

Filming has already begun, but the title and premiere date are yet to be announced.

This move allows Netflix to enter the NBA media business and gain insights into viewership and potential future interest.
