There's a record number of boat entries ahead of this years Airlie Beach Race Week.

139 boats are set to compete during the week long event from August 12th to 19th, with entries still open.

Media Manager of the Airlie Beach Raceway Di Pearson says the numbers are incredible so far.

"Entries have gone above and beyond and it really is surprising considering Airlie Beach race week was the only major event to go ahead last year,"

"We have broken all records with entries still open and numbers are just climbing by the day and it's just incredible."

She also says it's going to be quite the spectacle

"There's going to be a lot of colour in the Whitsunday Islands," Ms Pearson says.

"We have added at least three new classes this year with small off the beach boats in the catamarans, trimarans, F16, F18 and Weta boats."

Entries for the race close Monday August 2nd.
