Public consultation will start soon on proposed changes to Whitsunday Regional Council’s Planning scheme.
It’s in relation to short term accommodation and keeping tourism projects out of residential neighbourhoods.
Mayor Ry Collins says getting input from the public is the next step in the process.
“We know that there are a lot of concerns in the community around the impact of short term accommodation and really this amendment is seeking to strike that balance between ensuring we’re a compelling destination for people to visit, to invest but also to protect the amenity needs of our community,” he says.
Director of Planning and Development Services Neil McGaffin says council has identified areas where the developments would be supported.
“What we want the community to comment on is ‘here are some precincts where we think short term accommodation should be located are you comfortable with that?’ so we welcome their comments.”
