Detectives have charged a 34-year-old North Mackay man with several counts of serious assault police following a number of incidents on August 13 and 14.
At around 10.30pm officers were returning to Cairns Police Station when an object was allegedly thrown at the police car window. The 34-year-old then allegedly ran at an officer swinging his arms violently as the officer was attempting to exit the car. He was taken to the Cairns Watchhouse and charged with serious assault.
The man was released on bail at around 2.10am. At 2.30am it will be alleged the man again threw an object at a police car attempting to enter the police station. The man again rushed at officers and struck a male police officer several times in the face and head. One punch allegedly caused the officer to fall back and strike his head against the police vehicle.
He was tasered and taken back into custody while the officer suffered cuts and bruises to his face.
The man was charged with serious assault police causing bodily harm and serious assault police.
