A 50-year-old man has died and another is fighting for life following a crash between a ute and coal train.
The Toyota Landcruiser was travelling towards Collinsville from Bowen around 9pm Tuesday when the incident happened at a rail crossing.
The ute passenger died at the scene while the driver, a 40-year-old man, was flown to Mackay Hospital with serious injuries.
Two people, who were in the coal train, were not physically injured.
It came 14 hours after a Proserpine man was killed in a head-on crash with a cement truck at Mount Julian.
Early investigations indicate the 47-year-old’s car hit the truck on a bend along Shute Harbour Road around 7am Tuesday.
Investigations are also continuing into a third crash which happened at Alexandra.
Three cars collided on the Peak Downs Highway on Tuesday morning.
Three drivers were taken to hospital, including a 67-year-old South Mackay woman who has since been flown to Townsville Hospital for further treatment.
