Family of Good Samaritan killed in Bruce Highway crash speaks out

The family of a 65-year-old man, who was killed in a crash south of Gympie on Friday, has released a photo in the hope it will encourage more witnesses to come forward.

Terry Bishop, from Hay Point in Mackay, was travelling north along the Bruce Highway at Federal, in a silver 2012 Nissan Navara dual cab ute, when it was involved in a collision.

Mr Bishop and his passenger, a 25-year-old woman, died at the scene, as did a 38-year-old woman from another vehicle.

Mr Bishop’s family has revealed he was travelling to Brisbane to attend a wedding when the crash occurred. they’re absolutely devastated by the loss.

“He leaves behind a wife, daughter, son and five young grandchildren who all loved him dearly.

“Our family is absolutely devastated, he is a man that would always go out of his way to help anyone in need.

“Our hearts go out to the other victims’ families and the first responders in this horrific tragedy.”

A 25-year-old man allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle also involved in the crash, remains under police guard in hospital.

He’s been charged with six offences including stealing, armed robbery with violence, driving without a licence, dangerous operation of a vehicle and unlawful possession of a motor vehicle.

The matter was mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today, and has been adjourned until Thursday.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
