Police are working to track the movements of a Mackay man who died in a house fire at the weekend.
It’s understood Mark Gallagher left work around 8:30 on Saturday morning before he died in the Grant Street blaze around 6:30 that evening.
“We’ve been able to trace his movements up until about 9:30 that morning when he was sighted at a local IGA supermarket on Bridge Road,” says Detective Acting Inspector Chris Eaton.
“What police are asking for assistance with is anyone who may have had any contact or seen Mr Gallagher between the hours of 9:30am on Saturday and 6:30pm when that fire started.”
The 59-year-old’s body wasn’t discovered until the following day, along with the remains of two dogs.
“It took the best part of a day to be able to certify the building to be safe and then it’s a painstaking process of going through it centimetre by centimetre. Safety is the main reason it takes the time,” Detective Acting Inspector Eaton adds.
The fire isn’t being treated as suspicious at this stage.
